About
Julie Legrand
Hypersensitive and observant, I photograph the small, honest details that reveal a place or a person.
I work almost entirely on film — expired stocks and very old cameras — for the grain and imperfection that digital smooths away.
I develop my photographs at home, experimenting with recipes before each batch. Often I let the film soak in ocean water, directly in the tank or as a film soup, so the sea leaves its own marks on the image.
The results are unpredictable: blooms, tides and halos that I could never plan. I keep the ones that feel like the place they came from.
